Selling banned plastics in shops raided by Udupi Municipality officials in Santhekatte

Udupi, July 19: Shops selling banned plastics were raided in Santekatte under Udupi City Municipality today and 52 kg of banned plastics were seized and fine of Rs 18,000 recovered. Penalties were imposed and companies that did not use single-use plastics were declared green firms.
Municipal Environmental Engineers, Senior Health Inspectors, Junior Health Inspectors, Sanitary Supervisors and civil servants participated in this event.
If the public, entrepreneurs, traders are found to be using banned plastics, the business license will be canceled and fine will be imposed.
In the announcement, the Municipal Commissioner has informed that all the entrepreneurs should refrain from using single-use plastics and declare themselves as green organizations and the public should not use plastic materials while performing ceremonies in homes, wedding halls, hotels and use recycled materials to reduce plastic production and join hands with the Municipal Council for environmental protection.
