Udupi : Beedi Workers demanding  payment of Dearness Allowance which pending since two years by the Beedi company owners, said Vittal Shetty CITU leader at a protest organized by CITU in front of Bharath Beedi Works company here on Monday, 20^th March, 2017.

He was speaking after the long procession by the beedi workers from Clock Tower to Bharath Beedi Works though streets of central Udupi. He said that from 1^st April 2015 according to the price rice as per the government proposal companies should pay dearness allowance of Rs. 12.75 per thousand Beedi. The Beedi companies without following the order of the then labour minister Parameshwar Naik have not paid the dearness allowance to the Beedi workers. Hence, the Beedi workers filed litigation in the High Court of Karnataka to drop the order. Then in the month of November, High Court has passed the order in the judgment in favour of Beedi workers and had given notice to the companies to pay the dearness allowance from 1^st April 2015. But Beedi companies not able to pay allowance to the beedi workers.

After the court order, the Beedi Federation had given the notice to Beedi companies to pay dearness allowance in January. Even though there has no sign the giving pending dearness allowance to the workers. We asked to obey High court judgment order.  On 31^st March 2017 there will be two years dearness allowance has pending and Beedi workers demanding pending D.A. immediately. If not released, the Beedi Federation will protest strongly for their demand, said Vittal Shetty.
