Print Udupi : The centenary celebration of St. Xavier Hr. Pry. School, Kolalgiri near here was inaugurated on 14 November 2016 by Rev. Fr. Peter D’Sa. Mrs Arathi Poojari, President of Uppoor Grama Pachayath was the chief guest of the day’s programme.
Sr. Christin Crasta, Headmistress of the school, giving a bird eye view on the history of the school said - 100 years ago Kolalgiri was a hilly place surrounded with thick jungle. In 1916 Rev. Msgr. Sabhas Jochim Fernandes saw the pathetic condition of the people with issue concerning illiteracy, poverty and low social status. So to educate them and to shape their destiny. He began St. Xavier Hr. Pry. School in a small tent. This institute has a good name in the vicinity. Thousands of students who have gone through this institute are doing well in their career. Even today the motto of the founder is continued. Poor children of the locality, who are unable to go to the English medium school due to financial problems, Children from Bagalkot, Raichur whose parents have come in search of job as well as children from different places who stay in the Children Home also study in this school.
On this occasion, the children also held an awareness march about cleanliness and protection of the environment. Mrs Rukmini compered the programme. Mrs Sujatha welcomed the gathering and Miss Shamitha delivered the vote of thanks.
