Udupi : Gender equality is at the very heart of human rights and human values. Human Rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of gender, religion, status like Tamil or Kannada, sex, ethnicity, color, language or political or other categorization, said G. Rajasheker, great thinker and President of Karnataka Komu Sauhardha Vedike, Udupi.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Mangalore University level Inter Collegiate one day seminar on Hyman Rights and Gender Discrimination held at Milagres College Audio Visual Hall, Kallianpur on Tuesday, 20^th September, 2016.

He said that a fundamental principle of the United Nations charter adopted in 1945 is equal rights of men and women and protecting and promoting women’s human rights is responsibility of all. Indeed it is gender discrimination violates human rights. Human rights are discriminatory that all human beings are entitled to them and cannot be excluded from them. All human beings entitled to human rights, he said.

He said in India women are being taken into granted. When we see the percentage of women representation in Lok Sabha or in legislative assemblies in states are very poor. No political parties except Left parties are not interested women in certain percentage participation. The rights of human being denied which will be tragedy. The basic human right is to live peacefully with human beings without any partiality.

The resource persons present during the inaugural programme were Sheela Ramanathan, Adovate and Human Rights Activist, Mallige, President Karnataka Janashakthi, Mandya.

Dr. Gerald Pinto Principal of Milagres College presided the occasion and spoke his presidential address. Earlier the programme began with invocation by Aporva. Prof. Cyril Mathias HOD of English and Convener of the seminar gave beautifully introduction on the subject and welcomed the gathered. Guests on the dais were florally gave tribute on the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s portrait.

Rosalia Cardoza compered the inaugural programme and Reshma proposed vote of thanks. Yashoda students’ representative present on the dais. Students of different colleges of the Mangaluru University were participated in the seminar.
