LATEST: Monday, June 6, is the first day of the holy month of Ramadan in the UAE, Dubai Media Office tweeted.

The committee tasked with the sighting of the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan announced that today (Sunday, June 5) was the last day of the month of Sha’ban. Therefore, tomorrow, Monday, June 6, is the first day of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1437 Hijri calendar.

Ramadan moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia also, therefore Monday, June 6, will be the first day of the holy month.

Media reports said that the crescent has been sighted in Kuwait, Jordan and other Arab countries also.

The announcement was made by the moon-sighting committee.

The holy month of Ramadan will begin from Monday, June 6, 2016, Saudi media reports said today.

The UAE’s moon-sighting committee met today after the Maghrib prayer on the 29th of Shaaban, or June 5, at the Judiciary Department in Abu Dhabi, and is likely to confirm the announcement shortly.
