Print Maundy Thursday observed at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi, March 24, 2016: On Maundy Thursday, four services were held at the Cathedral commemorating the holy week events in different languages. The services in English was held outdoors at 7.00 P. M. to accommodate large number of English speaking expatriate parishioners.
Services were also held in Arabic, French and Malayalam inside St. Joseph’s Church. Thousands of faithful took part in these services with utmost respect and reverence. The altar outdoor was immaculately decorated to be suitable for the ‘Last Supper’ service.
Keeping in tune with the universal Church, the Eucharistic celebration consisted of ‘Washing of the Feet’ by the main celebrant of the Mass. The service held at 7.00 pm was led by Southern Arabia Bishop Paul Hinder. Fr. Johnson, Parish Priest then introduced new parishioners who were aspiring to serve as ‘Communion Ministers’ to assist during various Sunday and other Masses being held during weekends. The installation was done by Bishop Paul after taking an oath for commitment of devotion.
Soon after the Mass, Pange Lingua was sung by the Choir as the Eucharist was taken in procession by the Bishop to an altar put up at the St. Theresa Church. After a short prayer session and singing of hymns, the Eucharist was placed for silent adoration by the parishioners up to 11pm.
