Udupi : The district BJP held a protest at Clock Tower near Service Bus stand here on Monday, 29^th Februrary, 2016 against the proposed hike in business license fees by the Udupi City Municipal council.

During speaking with protesters Udayakumar Shetty former district BJP district committee President said that earlier during Dr. V.S. Acharya’s presence Udupi council got several awards for the excellent work. At that time council won several awards from district, state and even in national level for the excellent performances. But now that dream never exists. Today we have protesting over here due to the Municipal authorities’ failure in administration, we felt very sad. He pointed out various failures of the Municipal administrations like shortage of water, corruption and many more. Now Municipality has going for increase of business license fees. The people can’t live in peace. 

In his address former MLA Raghupathy Bhat said that Udupi Municipal council going to introduce revision of business license fees illegally. According to the Karnataka Municipal act, 1964, Schedule 13, there are certain laws to revision of business license fees. As per the Karnataka Municipalities Manual in 3 volumes – 2015 Fourth edition 256(4), Municipalities not able to increase more than Rs. 500 per year. But it is proposed to be increased by nearly 300 per cent the existing amount which will be illegal.

He also said that congress led Udupi Municipality council also hiked the fee from Rs. 150 to Rs. 2,000 for issuing no objection certificate which will create problems for people availing the housing scheme.

Later protestors walked to City Municipal Council premises and presented a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner Manjunathaiya by the Raghupathy Bhat former MLA.

During the protest councilors Yashpal Suvarna, Vasanthi Shetty, Dinakar Shetty Herga, Sumithra Naik, Shyam Prasad Kudva, Dr. M. R. Pai, Rashmita Balakrishna, Naveen Bhandary, k. Raghavendra Kini, Girish M Anchan and BJP workers were present.
