Puttur: The inaugural function of two day National Conference ‘PHILOFERENCE -2015’ on the theme ‘Social Innovation and Change Making: A way forward’ under the joint auspices of PG Department of Social Work of St Philomena College, Puttur and Ashoka innovators for the Public was held on December 3, 2015 in college auditorium.

     The inaugurator of the Conference Prof. Satyajit Majumdar, Professor and Chairperson, Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, School of Management and Labour Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai delivered the keynote address and said, ‘Social innovation is often an effort of mental creativity which involves fluency and flexibility from a wide range of disciplines. The act of social innovation in a sector is mostly connected with diverse disciplines within the society.’

     The chief guest Mr. Shashikumar Velath, Leadership Group Member, Vice-President, Framework Change, South Asia, Ashoka Innovators for the Public said, ‘All over the world there has been a phenomenal surge of interest in social innovation as a way to achieve sustainable economic growth.’

The Chairperson of PG Studies Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro presided over the function and said, ‘The creativity and intelligence of the youth can certainly overcome the social problems of the nation.’

     Ms. Shravya and group presented the prayer. The Coordinator of PG Studies in Social Work Prof. Prasanna Kumar welcomed the gathering. The Convener of the conference Fr. Prince C P gave preliminary address. The student coordinator Ms. Deepika proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Dananjay was present on the occasion. Ms. Tinu Aleena Bose and Ms. Bhavya S K compered the programme.

         The students, faculties and members of NGOs from various parts of the country participated as delegates.
