Celebratory Reception honoring His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulos II of Catholicos on his Maiden visit to Brahmavar

Udupi : The celebratory reception honoring His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and the Malankara Metropolitan on his maiden Apostolic visit and the inaugural ceremony of Centennial celebrations of Cosmopolitan Higher Primary School, Brahmavar held on Friday, 4th December, 2015 at St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar. Earlier in the morning His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II was warmly received at Karavali Junction, Udupi by huge faithful of Syrian Orthodox and later held procession of vehicles from Udupi to Brahmavar SMS Cathedral.
In his presidential address at stage programme held at Cathedral hall, said that during the primary level our school should teach in regard to the better culture and tradition of the society, so that near future youths could live in better valuable citizens of the country. The Cosmopolitan school started by the great visionary Fr. R.Z. Noronha has grown and providing education with initial skills which step towards civilization. The education in the school develops good social skills and it would helps better citizen of the country.
He said children learning about the different culture and traditin of the society will make them acquainted with modern society. Brahmavar community will enhance in terms of providing more services to the society in the form of education. He wish and pray that the school continues to impart good education to the ociety. He felt proud to visit Brahmavar for the first time.
Earlier Vinay Kumar Sorake Minister of Urban Development, Government of Karnataka and minister in charge of district inaugurated the stage programme in the absence of former home minister M.G. George. In his inaugural speech Vinay Kumar Sorake said that being in charge of district minister as this is the maiden visit of Catholicos Paulose II, it is matter of proud for us and he welcome him to Udupi district on behalf of Udupi citizens. He said when we looking back hundred years, the Brahmavar surroundings very backward area and poor. But now Brahmavar developed in larger sense specially in the field of education. The Cosmopolitan School in Brahmavar which founded by Fr. Noronha hundred years ago has provided education to thousands with affection, love and sacrifice. This school has led to the creation of development of society in Brahmavar. Through the better service in education, we can succeed to create better society with love, sacrifice and affection.
He also said he got several opportunities in the midst of Syrian Orthodox community in various places at D.K. district. He will congratulate the community for their valuable services to the society.
CAtholicos Paulos II was felicitated on the occasion by individuals and various heads of organizations. Catholicos Paulose II is the 91st successor to the apostolic throne of St. Thomas in India, being enthroned on Nov. 1, 2010. The St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral and its Chapels are the only Konkani speaking orthodox community, within the jurisdiction of Indian Orthodox Church and in the entire world. As such this visit is of great pride and importance for the community and its churches. The St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral the prime centre of the Brahmavar Konkani Orthodox Community was founded in 1889, by the saintly and the revolutionary Archbishop Blessed Alvares Mar Julius I. The community since then has blossomed into additional 6 churches and 5 congregations. His Holiness has taken keen interest in the affairs of the Brahmavar Konkani Orthodox community from beginning and had expressed interest in visiting it. The visit of His Holiness is set to usher a new era for the Brahmar Konkani Orthodox Community.
His Lordship Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, His Grace Yakob Mar Elias Metropolitan, Brahmavar Diocese, H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan, Calcutta Diocese, Smt. Veronica Cornelio President KSDL, Rev Jeevan Sarvathoma representative of CSI, Karnataka Southern Diocese, Rev. Johns Abraham Konattu Priest Trustee,MOSC., M. G. George Muthoot Lay Trustee MOSC and others spoke during the occasion.
Catholicos Paulose II released the title page of the Brahmavar parish directory and unveiled Centennial Plaque of the Cosmopolitan School which would later be installed in the school premises.
Earlier Rev. Fr. C.A. Isac Vicar General, St. Mary’s Cathedral and Correspondent OSCES welcomed the gatherings. Students of Cosmopolitan school presented welcome dance and later in the programme performed cultural programme as well.
Nithyananda President of Varamballi Grama Panchayat, Anil Rodrigues Trustee St. Mary’s Cathedral, Johnson Crasta General Secretary OSES and others were present.
Jeevan Lobo and others compared the programme. Rev Fr. Abraham Kuriakose Programme Convener delivered vote of thanks. The programme concluded with national anthem.
