Print Kemmannu, November 28, 2015: The Historic Thonse Padumane Kambala (Wet Land buffalo race) will be held from morning 11 AM till 6 PM on Sunday the 6th of December, 2015.
According to Thonse Raghuram Hegde, The Senior member of Thonse Padumane, Mr. Janardhan Thonse, Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) will inaugurated the event at 2 PM along with Mrs. Fouziya Sadiq, President, Thonse Grama Panchayat. Mr. Promod Madwaraj, Udupi MLA and Mrs. Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi MP will participate in the concluding event at 6. PM.
This is one of the famous Kambl’s of the Kolke summer paddy season in the Udupi District.
Thonse Padumane Kambala has a history of over a hundred years. It is said that 100 to 200 pairs of buffalos took part in the Kambala in the early 19th century. Due to the decline of agriculture in the area, the number has declined and an average 30 pairs are taking part these days.
The Thonse Padumane kambala attracts participants from all over the coastal area of undivided south Kanara and even as far as from the northern parts of Kerala. Be there and enjoy the day long fun.
