Manipal : The second hands-on training workshop in sports sciences, “Sportsman 2015”, organized by the Sports Council, Manipal university along with Sports Authority of India will be held here from Decemver 7 to 9. The second edition of the three day workshop has attracted participants from across the state. It was a local affair in the previous edition and the next year we hope to organize it at a national level, said Dr. H. S. Ballal Pro Chancellor of Manipal University.

He was speaking to media persons at Manipal University during press conference that the workshop will be inaugurated by Pro Chancellor, Dr. H. S. Ballal at 9 am in the interact building and the Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat will be the chief guest at the closing function on December 9, 2015 at 4pm at the Medical Simulation Centre.

He also said that the idea of holding a workshop of this nature for all those connected with physical education in some way or the other, is to update them on various aspects of sports science. All information related to sports such as injuries, psychology, nutrition, training, communication, management, gender sensitivity and biochemistry will be imparted by experts in each of these areas.

Three experts from the National institute of Sports in Patiala will be here to address the participants who will be drawn from schools and colleges of the state. Physical education directors and teachers, coaches, trainers, administrators and other professionals working in the area of sports are expected to take part in the workshop. The maximum number of participants will be limited to 40.

The experts from NIS Dr. Deepak Mishra, Sports Psychologist, Dr. Sunil Purohit, Sports Biochemist and Dr. Jaswind Sing would be sharing their expertise with the participants. The other resource persons include, Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Associate Dean, KMC, Manipal who will deal with “Sports Injuries”, Dr Kumar M.R. Sports Advisor, KMC, Manipal who will talk on, “Effect of physical activity on human body”, Dr. Nandini Lakshmikantha, Director School of Communication whose session will be, “Handling Gender” and Dr. Fiddy Davis, Associate Professor and Programme coordinator MSc Exercise and Sports Sciences, SOAJS, Manipal, who will be the resource person for, “Core Strengthening for improved athletic performance”.

The concluding day will perhsps, be the most important part of the three day workshop as the participants will get a hands-on experience on the mannequins in Manipal University’s well-equipped and famous medical simulation centre, where the basic life support programme will be explained and practiced. Dr. Shobha K. L. will lead a team of doctors during this session, he added.
