Canada: Chilly Willy  Sathish Crowned with Vishwa Manava Award at World Kannada Convention.

Canada/Dubai, July 5. 2015:  Satish Venkataramana, one of the dynamic Mangalurean community leaders and successful entrepreneur of ’Chilly Willy’ fame in the UAE, received the prestigious Vishwa Manava Award in recongnizing his services to Kannadigas in NRI Category. The award was bestowed during the 11th World Kannada Cultural Convention which took place at the Grand Victorian convention centre at the Park Inn by Radisson, Toronto on June 27 and 28th.

The convention, organised by Kannada Kasturi and Hrudaya Vahini, a group from Mangaluru, was held before in UAE, Malyasia and Singapore, Bahrain, Qatar and Dubai but this is the first time that it is taking place in the continent of North America. Around 1200 people attend this meet including Kannadigas residing in Canada. The main purpose of this event is to elevate the Kannada language, literature and culture to a global level. “Around 80 well-known dignitaries from Karnataka including poets, film directors like Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, drama artistes, actor Darshan among others attend the event.

The 11th WKCC was inaugurated after the Poornakumba Procession by lighting the lamp by Mr. Sri H. Anjaneya, Hon. Minister for Social Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka. Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah, Chairman, Kannada Development Authority was the Chairperson of the Convention. Guest of honours was Hon. Dr. Parm Gill, M. P. Parliamentary Secretary to the minister of International Trade., Hon. Dr. Asha Seth, Senator,  Hon. Dipika Damerla. M.P.P, Associate minister of Health and Long Term Trade, Hon. Akhilesh Mishra, Counsul General of India in Toronto, Mr. Stanislaus Antony, CEO of CMR Radio Canada, Sri Sumramani M. Hon. President World Kannada Calutural Convention and the key note addresses were delivered by Er. K. P. Manjunath Sagar, Founder President, World Kannada Cultural Convention, Sri. Nagaraj B. V., Director,  Kannada Kasturi, Canada and actor Darshan.

Sri. Vishveshwara Bhat, Renowned Journalist presided the Seminar on NRI Kannadiga’s, Nurture of Kannada and Role of Media  on the 28th June. The resource person’s were Dr. Muralidhar, Secretary, Kannada Development Authority, Sri Satish Venkataramana, Managing Director, Chilly Willy, Dubai. E. V. Sathyanarayana, ex president,  PCB, Sri Ramesh, Bangalore, Toronto and Sri. Anil Dasharath , Toronto.

Sathish during his talk stressed the need to open a Kannada School in Canada to preserve the Kannada Language, literature and culture to the next generation. He also told the parents to speak the kannada language at least in their homes and also requested the associations and NRI leader who were present at the convention to come forward and to help the job seeking kannadigas into Canada.

Satish Venkatraman was the winner of Aryabhata International Award for the year 2010 in recognition of his excellent contribution and services in the field of Industry. Recently Satheesha was unanimously elected as President of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah. He is one of the few dynamic young entrepreneurs who not only showed success in his business but also supported a lot of Kannadiga activities by sponsoring the events. He is also a philanthropist who continuous doing charity works for the real needy every time he gets an appeal irrespective of caste, creed, language, religion and region and is particularly popular among the Kannadigas in the UAE.
