Mumbai Metro Offers ’Pizza on the Go’ to Commuters
Kemmannu News Network, 06-06-2015 18:02:05
Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro One, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has tied up with Domino’s Pizza to introduce "pizza on-the-Go" to commuters, marking one year of operations.
The first-of-its-kind quick serving restaurant of Domino’s Pizza has been opened at Chakala (JB Nagar) Metro station. Commuters just have to take a break for a few minutes to grab a fresh pizza without having to go out of the station, a company statement said.
These outlets will serve pizzas of one size with different toppings, starting at Rs. 60.

"The Mumbai Metro has become the synonym to quality and speed that Pizza on-the-go symbolises. It is a unique offer to the commuters that has been conceptualised keeping in view the convenience of commuters," a spokesperson for the Metro said.
By July-end, two more Metro stations -- Andheri and Versova -- will have similar outlets and most other stations will be included in near future, the statement.
The spokesperson said this was the first such Domino’s Pizza outlet in India, which will bake a pizza in three minutes and offer it to the customers. The outlet also extends the concept of watching their pizza being baked, thanks to a glass window.
A few days ago, the Mumbai Metro started its anniversary celebration by introducing offers and discounts on several retail products -- food, fashion, healthcare and gadgets -- along its corridor.
The train system started its journey last year on June 8. It has thus far ferried over 90 million commuters in 130,000 trips, with more than 99 percent efficiency, the statement said.
The project is a consortium formed by Reliance Infrastructure, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, and Veolia Transport of France with stakes of 69 percent, 26 percent and and 5 percent respectively.
The 11.4-km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, to provide connectivity between western and eastern quarters of the city, was awarded to Mumbai Metro One for 35 years.

Mumbai Metro passes 100 million in a year
INDIA: Mumbai Metro Line 1 has carried 100 million passengers in its first year of revenue service, operating concessionaires RATP Dev and Transdev announced on June 4.
Opened on June 8 2014, the 11·4 km east-west line is run jointly by the two French companies on behalf of the Reliance-led PPP consortium under a five-year agreement which also includes maintenance of the infrastructure.
Linking Ghatkopar and Versova, the elevated line serves 12 stations, providing interchange to Indian Railways’ suburban services at Andheri and Ghatkopar. Line 1 is now carrying an average of 260 000 passengers a day, and this figure continues to grow as the city’s population of around 22 million increases by an estimated 4% a year.
Line 1 is intended as the first stage in a metro network totalling at least 90 km, with three further routes already authorised. Last November Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority gave the go-ahead for lines 2 and 4, which are to be completed in the next seven years. Line 3 was approved in 2013, and is expected to open in 2019.
Line 2 will run for 40 km connecting Mankhurd to Dahisar via Bandra and Charkop. Running entirely underground with 36 stations, including an interchange to Line 1 at D N Nagar, this route is expected to cost Rs256·1bn.
The Rs231·4bn Line 3 will run underground for 33·5 km between Colaba, Bandra and Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone; this will meet Line 1 at Marol Naka. To be built at a cost of Rs191bn, the 32 km Line 4 will connect Wadala to Thane and Kasarvadavali, interchanging with Line 1 at Ghatkopar. This route will have 24 underground and six elevated stations.
