Udupi : Maundy Thursday also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great & Holy Thursday is the Christian Holy day observed at Milagres Cathedral of the Udupi Diocese which Jesus celebrated Passover with His Disciples Known as Last Supper. The Holy Thursday observed at Milagres Cathedral with the devotion which was concelebrated the celebration by His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese on 2^nd April, 2015.

The Holy mass concelebrated by the Bishop along with Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Diocese Cathedral, Rev Fr. Denis Lobo Superior of Pilar Fathers Mini Seminary, Rev Fr. Rolwin Joy Aranha Asst. Vicar of Cathedral, Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado of Pilar Fathers and Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza Principal of Milagres English Schools.

In his beautiful homily Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado placed some of importance of the celebrations of Maundy Thursday. He explained the circumstances that led the Jews to observe the feast of Pass Over which celebrated by Jews year after year. He said today is the very important day which Christians observe the day which Holy Eucharist was started by Jesus Christ Our Saviour. He said that today the day of Priests who are chosen to say the holy mass and lead the Christians and he called upon all the Christians to be united in Christ by celebrating Eucharist together.

Following the homily,  Bishop  washed the feet of 12 Gurkars and representatives of the wards in commemoration of Jesus washing the feet of apostles which symbolizing humility by the Jesus Christ.

At the end of the mass Rector of the Cathedral placed brief announcements. Soon after the mass the Holy Eucharist was taken in procession to the “Altar of Repose” which specially prepared towards the right of the main alter. Meanwhile the main altar was stripped of the coverings and was left bear in memory of the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus.

Fr. Mahesh D’Souza conducted the adoration of the Holy Eucharist meaningfully.
