Udupi : During the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes grievances redress meeting in his presiding meeting at District Superintendent Police Office Conference Hall on Saturday, Annamalai Superintendent of Police said that cases where the police had filed “B” reports and about which the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leaders had doubts or suspicions would be re-opened and re-investigated.

Earlier, Sundar Master, DSS leader, said that the police had filed ‘B’ reports on some cases without proper investigation. The police were not filing some cases as per the Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, which weakened them, he said. Other leaders supported him.

Mr. Annamalai said that cases about which DSS leaders had doubts that ‘B’ reports were filed without proper investigation in the last three years would be reopened. He asked Mr. Sundar to give a list of such cases.

Jayan Malpe, DSS leader, said the police should provide a list of cases on which ‘B’ reports had filed and the DSS leaders would then select from them. Mr. Annamalai agreed to this suggestion.

Udaykumar Tallur and other DSS leaders from Kundapur said that the Kundapur Tahsildar Gayatri Nayak had behaved with them rudely. They had even lodged a complaint against her with the police, but no proper action had been taken, they said.

Mr. Annamalai said that the feelings of the Dalit leaders about Ms. Nayak would be conveyed to Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal.

On a query on stone quarrying affecting houses in Palli-Manjalpady in Karkala taluk, Mr. Annamalai said that the Police Department was awaiting a final report from the Department of Mines and Geology before taking action.

Annamalai SP presided and Additional SP Santhosh Kumar, DySP’s of Sin-Divisions, CPI’s, PSI’s and large number of dalits leaders were present.
