Udupi : Palm Sunday that marks the beginning of the Holy Week was observed at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur near here on Sunday, 29^th March, 2015. Prior to the service, all faithful gathered at main entrance gate of the church near Milagres High School at 8am. Gurkars of the church distributed Palm leaves to all parishioners gathered which blessed by the Rector of the Cathedral Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo.

Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo conducted the prayer service and read the Gospel relevant to the occasion. He gave brief key note address on the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

Following the brief prayer service the congregation proceeded towards the Cathedral with systematically and assembled in the church which appreciated.  

The Palm Sunday mass was concelebrated by Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo along with Rev Fr. Rolwin Joy Aranha, Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Rev Fr. Denis Lobo and Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado of Pilar Fathers. The Gospel of the day animated by the chief priest Fr. Stany Lobo.

Christians are marking their Holy Week starting on Palm Sunday and concluding on Easter Sunday which celebrates the resurrection of Christ on the third day after his death on the cross. Palm Sunday also called Passion Sunday showcases the kingship of Christ and commemorates his triumphant riding into Jerusalem sitting on an ass. The Biblical narrative of this event is brief. As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem and will be delivered to the chief priest and scribes and they will condemn him to death.

The Biblical account of one day demonstrated kingship of Jesus. Its commemoration on Palm Sunday is one of the highlights of Church liturgy.

During the season of lent until Easter the vestments of the celebrating priests, as at daily Holy Mass, are purple, symbolizing mourning and penance. The altar is bare, bereft of decorative covers and flowers. But on Palm Sunday, the celebrating priest wears red vestments, a symbol of royalty and victory.
