DOHA : MCA - Qatar celebrated Monti Fest 2014 with great pomp and glory

Doha Qatar Sept 20: Mangalore Cultural Association - Qatar celebrated Monti Fest with great pomp and glory on September 19, 2014 at the Indian Cultural Centre Doha. This is the seventh year of this pompous celebration. The program began with MCA’s theme song followed by a prayer lead by Mrs. Hema Fernandes. The blessed corn (Noven) was served to all present.
The chief guest and the Advisory Members, Mr. Felix Lobo and Mr. Wilfred Fernandes were escorted to the stage by President, Arthur Pais and Vice President Jason Quadros for a short stage program.
President of MCA Arthur Pais welcomed the gathering. He updated on the Associations service rendered to the poorest of the poor back home and also the planned programs for this year. He said that MCA was born for purpose of assisting the needy back home and for keeping live our mother tongue and our Culture in this part of the world. MCA has been successful in both these objectives of theirs. Further he announced that on the occasion of completing 6 glorious years an award has been instituted through which prominent Konkani artists Kala Puraskar on noted Konkani writer Catherine Rodrigues, Katpadi this year will be honored in Qatar. Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) Qatar season 4 semi-finals on September 26 at the Al Ghazal Club in Qatar.
Mr. Felix Lobo gave a brief on the Monti Fest and how it was started in Mangalore. He also spoke about the Associations work and assured the people that was contributed towards the Associations projects will not be wasted and will be used only for the good cause of assisting the poorest of the poor in their Education, Medical Aid and other basic needs.
This year MCA revered its member’’s children who have academically excelled in the 8th, 9th and 11th standard exams as an encouragement to them. 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree high scorers were also appreciated to continue the practice that MCA had initiated in 2012. A few cultural programs were put up by the members. A group song, "Novens Jeevan" was sung by Nina Fernandes, Vincent Fernandes, Neil D’Silva and Alphonse D’Silva. This marked an apt opening to the evening’s unambiguous cultural show. Small, Innocent children Eva, Cydelia, Ashlyn, Alton, Anstun and Glen danced to the tunes of “Ye Nari Ye”. They were very much applauded by the audience. Rupert Lobo and Jovita Pereira – D’Souza sang the perennial romantic number composed by Late Wilfy Rebimbus, Suryachya Kirnani.
The audiences were once again astounded by the energetic performance of our ladies, Susan Rodrigues, Jyothi Noronha and Shanun D’Souza on a medley of songs. Nina Fernandes, Vincent Fernandes, Neil D’Silva and Alphonse D’Silva yet again entertained the gathering by singing exquisitely some Baila numbers. Savious Crasta sang an entertaining number Tring Tring Mobile Apaitha composed by Late Wilfy Rebimbus. The music was played by Neil D’Souza for the same. An entertaining drama, written by CGJ S Thakode “Moinyachi Poili Tarik” was enacted by Alwine Clifford Goveas, Jyothi Noronha, Susan Rodrigues, Benjamin Reberio and Wilson Mendonca.
The dances by group of Susan Rodrigues, Jyothi Noronha Shanan Verlin Dsouza,were the highlights of the evening.
The entire programme was well-compered in fluent Konkani by Wilma D’Souza and makes feel the konkani people at home.Several Spot games were conducted By Sandeep Noronha and prizes were distributed by Mr. Felix Lobo ,Mr. Wilfred Fernandes.Joint Cultural Secretary Anil Cutinha proposed the vote of thanks. The chief guest of the program was Rev. Fr.Lancy Fernandes Spiritual director Bless the Dinner.
Earlier in the day, all members of the club gathered to prepare the Novem Jevaan, Roce, Vorn and the vegetables at Mr. Felix Lobo residence under the leadership of Miss Stephanie Lobo. More than 300 who packed the Indian Cultural Centre Doha were treated to a sumptuous Novem Jevaan Dinner. Roce, Sanna, Bendan, sango, gosalen, podvolen, karethen, koromb, chone, lonchem, Shith, and Vorn.
MCA Executive Committee thanks all volunteers who joined hands in the preparation of Novem Jevaan, all participants and all who supported in every way to make this program a success. The sumptuous and delicious traditional food was enjoyed by all.
