Udupi : The second day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations also called Sri Krishna Leelotsava, popularly known as “Vittal Pindi” and also called “Mosaru Kudike” held with festive fervor on the final day of celebrations at Udupi.

Prior to the procession, Alare Govinda Human Pyramid group of Mumbai displayed their beautiful program of breaking the earthen pot near to Rajanghana of the Asta Mutt. Vittal Pindi is the famous Sri Krishna Leelotshava celebrations held annually during Sri Krishnashtami at held famous Udupi Sri Krishna Temple. The highlight of Vittal Pindi is the colourful procession  of the Utsava Murti of the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple.

Vittal is derived from the word “Vittala” which is Lord Krishna childhood name. “Pindi” is derived from the word “Banda” which means that earthen pot containing milk, curds, butter, and so on.

The clay idol of Sri Krishna was taken in a huge procession around car street on the beautiful chariot prepared for the purpose and prior to the procession Mahamangalarathi was held to the clay idol in the chariot by the Sri. Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyur Mutt.

During the procession, the main event of the breaking pots which specially erected around the temple the group of husk people breaking pots filled with colored water hanging from these erected poles. Udupi famous tiger dance troupes and other folk troupes added colour to the procession. Huge crowd witnessed the procession with festive fervor.

Vittal Pindi procession concluded where it was started and the clay idol immersed in Madhava Sarovar. During the procession Paryaya Sri Kaniyur Mutt Swamiji Sri Vidhyavallabha Tirtha Sripada, Sri Vidyasagara Tirtha of Sri Krishnapura Mutt and Sri Laxmivara Tirtha Swamiji of Shiroor were participated.
