Inauguration of SJEC- Alumni Association Mangalore Chapter held
Mangalore : Inauguration of the Alumni Association of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangalore Chapter, was held on Saturday, 16th August 2014, 6:30pm, in Cordel Hall, Kulshekar, Mangalore. The Bishop of Mangalore and President of SJEC, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, was the President of the function. Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza, Parish Priest, Our Lady of Miracles Church and Founder Director of SJEC was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Ajith Menezes, Director In-charge, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa Assistant Director, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal, Dr Vincent Crasta, Dean - Student Welfare and Alumni Affairs, were the Guests of Honour. The programme began with a prayer led by Mr Sweethin and Mr Vikram.
Rev. Fr Ajith Menezes, welcomed the gathering. The Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the SJEC Alumni Association - Mangalore Chapter by unveiling the Logo of the Association. Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza, Chief Guest, in his address, remembered the initial days of the College and the journey of growth and development over the past 12 years. He expressed his happiness in the formation of the Alumni Association and also his satisfaction at being able to meet the alumni and learn about their success and growth.
Dr Vincent Crasta administered the oath to the newly elected office bearers: President - Mr Nelson Castelino, 2010 MBA, Vice President - Mr Carlton Mario Antony Sequeira, 2012 BE Mech, Secretary - Ms Evita Coelho, 2009 CSE, Treasurer - Mr Franco Aldrin J Menezes, 2008 EEE, Event Coordinator - Ms Shwetha Devanga 2012 CSE, Media Coordinator - Mr Karthik Madhyastha 2011 BE Mech. The Office bearers placed lighted lamps in front of the logo as a symbolic gesture of accepting the responsibility of the Association, after which, the President, Mr Nelson Castelino and Secretary, Ms Evita Coelho occupied their positions on the dais. President, Mr. Nelson Castelino, addressed the gathering and laid out the plan of action for the Association in the coming months and also announced that December 23rd of every year wouldbe celebrated as SJEC Alumni Reunion Day.
Principal, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis addressed the gathering and mentioned the importance of alumni in the growth of the Institution. He cited examples of Alumni: MIT-Manipal, Mr Rajeev Suri, CEO of Nokia, and Mr Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and expressed his dream of witnessing Alumni from SJEC also reaching such positions of excellence in various Multinational Corporations. He invited the Alumni to keep visiting their Alma Mater, interacting with their teachers, and offering suggestions and feedback, which is vital for the growth of the Institution. The rank holders at University Level exams, who brought laurels to the Institution, were felicitated by the Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Dr.Aloysius Paul D’Souza.
President of the function, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, in his presidential address said that an educational institution plays a major role in forming and transforming its students into successful citizens. He called upon all the alumni to get involved in strengthening the Vision and Mission of their Alma Mater. He emphasized that it is the duty and responsibility of an alumnus to support the growth of the institution. He said that alumni are the elder brothers and sisters of the students studying in the college, who will always look up to them for guidance. He stressed the fact that, alumni associations are not for collecting money and stated that SJEC Alumni will work towards connecting the Institution with the Alumni, who are its ambassadors. He concluded by congratulating the rank holders, who have taken raised the name of the Institution to greater heights. Dr Rio DSouza proposed the vote of the thanks. Ms Diveena Fernandes and Mr Joel Concessao were the MC’s for the function. The formal function was followed by dinner.
