Shri. Ivan D’Souza, MLC visits Free Eye Camp organized by Rotary Club Shankerpura

Rotary Club and Rotary Trust Shankerpura jointly with Prasad Natralaya Super-speciality Eye Hospital, Udupi and District Health and Family Welfare Society, Udupi and Prevention of blindness department with the cooperation from Rotaract club Subhasnagar, organised Free Eye Camp on Sunday, 27th July 2014 between 09.30AM to 12.30 noon at Rotary Centenary Bhavan, Shankerpura.

Like every year, this Camp was sponsor by Dr. B. Narayana Bhat and Family, Biliyaru, (USA) in memory of his parents Late Smt. Krishnaveni and Late Shri.Govinda Bhat. Followed by the Prayer from Smt. Sumalata, President, Rotaract, Subhasnagara, and welcome speech from President of the Club, Rtn. Jerome Rodrigues, the Camp was inaugurated by Shri.B.Padmanabha Bhat, by Lighting the Lamp. 

Chief Guest, Dr. Nityananda Nayak, Secretary District Prevention of blindness department, in his speech advised the patients the importance of camp and complete process and benefits. He praised the members of Rotary Club for their selfless service to mankind. Also present on the dais Rtn. M.G. Nagendra, Assistant Governor and Rtn. Dr. Gururaj K, Zonal Lieutenant, Zone III, RI Dist 3180.

To witness the event in progress, Shri. Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Govt. Of Karnataka and his wife Dr. Kavitha D’Souza arrived at Rotary Bhavan accompanied by Rtn. Denzil Castelino, Past President of the club. He was welcomed by Rtn. Jerome Rodrigues and team of Rotarians.  In his brief message, Shri. Ivan D’Souza appreciated the humanitarian work being carried out by the club for the benefit of the less privileged people of the society. He specially mentioned about the Free Monthly Psychiatric Camps are being conducted by Rotary Shankerpura at Rotary Bhavan and gave his assurance of support.

The patients were examined by Dr. Shibith and his team from Prasad Natralaya and Dr. Nityananda Nayak, Secretary, District Eye Department, Government Hospital, Udupi. Out of 118 patients  examined during the camp, 67 patients were registered for free spectacles and 26 for free Cataract operation.

The introductory talk was delivered by Rtn. Naveen Amin, Director, Community Service, and vote of thanks was from Club Secretary Rtn. Clifford D’Mello.
