People’s Priest- Fr. Clement Mascarenhas set to leave Kemmannu Church.

Kemmannu, June 26, 2014: Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, who was the Parish Priest of Kemmannu for the last one year is set to leave Kemmannu Church. As per the directive of Udupi Diocese Bishop Dr. Gerald Issac Lobo, he has been appointed as the Director of Catholic Board of Education of Udupi Diocese.

Fr. Clement who was serving as the Principle of PU College in Mangalore Diocese, has opted for voluntary retirement from teaching and was appointed as the parish priest of Kemmannu after the formation of the Udupi Diocese. This was his first stint as parish priest. The soft spoken, enthusiastic and energetic priest had revitalized the Kemmannu Church within a period of one year by taking the parishioners into confidence and being one of them. The deeply religious and devout priest was very close to each and everyone in the parish and specially had a soft corner for the underprivileged and the elders of the community. Visiting, consoling and meeting the spiritual needs of the old aged and sick parishioners at their home was the prime point of his itinerary during the last one year.

A music composer of highest esteem, he has brought out several CD’s of devotional songs and Christmas carols. He is a avid follower and supporter of sports specially football. Fishing is also one of his chosen hobbies.

Fr. Clement has been entrusted with a higher responsibility of handling the Education Department of the nascent Udupi Diocese. Bishop of Udupi Diocese is confident that he will oversee and discharge the responsibility and faith bestowed upon him.

Meanwhile a formal Farewell function has been arranged at the Kemmannu Church on Friday, July 04 with the holy mass at 4.30 pm followed by farewell function and dinner.

Fr. Ferdinend Gonsalves, the principle of Milagres PU College as well as Director of Commission for Laity, DIOCESE OF UDUPI and the Spiritual Director of Catholic Sabha, DIOCESE OF UDUPI, is designated to take over as parish priest of Kemmannu will arrive in Kemmannu on Saturday July 05 at 5.30 pm and Fr. Clement is scheduled to leave Kemmannu on June 06. Fr. Clement will be based in Bishop’s House in the future.

Fr. Clement came to our parish when his presence was needed the most. He swung into action immediately and put in place so many activities and took so many interesting projects and executed them well. I must be honest and very transparent when i say that though we have had many good and humble priests serving us in the past, Fr. Clement was the motivation that the kemmanites needed. He has put in his best for the spiritual and social development of the parish. Hats off to you Fr. We wish you all the very best for your future. :)
