Udupi, Feb 2: It is mandatory to obtain a government license for digital app-based auto public transport in Udupi city limits. Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T. K. said that it is advisable to discuss and circulate the pros and cons if you have a license.

She was speaking after presiding over a meeting organized to discuss the problems of auto rickshaw drivers and owners regarding Namma Yatri App and Rapid App auto traffic in Udupi city limits, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Manipal Rajathadri today.
There are conflicting views on the operation of digital app-based rental autos in Manipal in Udupi city limits. Some companies are providing services based on digital apps. If the government permits and other documents in this regard are produced before the District Regional Transport Authority, the pros and cons will be discussed with the office bearers of local auto drivers’ unions and representatives of app-based organizations.
More than 4000 auto rickshaws are registered and running in Zone-1 of Udupi city. She said that some of them have been running this profession for many years and their views will be sought.
MLA Yashpal A Suvarna said that the demand of the people and tourists in Udupi city area and the auto stands should be allowed to rent according to the capacity. Attention should be paid to providing basic facilities to rickshaw drivers at autorickshaw stands. He said that the problems of those who have been driving autos in the city for about 25 to 30 years and making a living, should be discussed and then the digital app should be allowed.

District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that when a digital app-based auto is developed, it should not cause inconvenience to other auto drivers. Only those with prior registration will be allowed to enter the parking lots. If auto drivers who do not have a station have applied for registration, they will be given permission after discussing with the municipal commissioner of the city after seeing the auto traffic there.
In the meeting, the auto rickshaw drivers brought to the notice of the meeting about the problems caused to other auto drivers due to the app-based auto movement, simple identification of auto rickshaw zone-1, zone-2 movement, installation of color coding and provision for fresh registration at the auto station.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Mahantesh Hangargi, Regional Transport Authority Santosh Shetty, office bearers of auto rickshaw union, auto rickshaw drivers and owners, representatives of Namma Yatri and Rapid App and others.
