Catholic Sabha Mount Rosary unit celebrates Laity Day - 2026

Udupi, Jan 18: The Catholic Sabha of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte – Kallianpur, celebrated Laity Day 2026 with great devotion, enthusiasm and active participation of parishioners on Sunday, 18th January 2026. The programme highlighted the vital role of laity in the Church and society and became a memorable occasion for everyone present.
























The celebration began with a Holy Eucharistic Celebration from 8.00 am to 9.00 am, offering thanksgiving to God for the dedicated service of lay faithful. This was followed by a fellowship breakfast from 9.00 am to 9.15 am, strengthening bonds among members.
Formal Programme
The formal function commenced at 9.15 am with a Prayer Service led by Ms Anitha D’Souza and the vibrant Church Choir team, invoking God’s blessings on the gathering.
At 9.18 am, the programme was introduced by the elegant Master of Ceremonies, Mrs Pramila D’Souza, CS Joint Secretary who guided the proceedings with grace and clarity.
At 9.20 am, the Welcome Address was delivered by the Catholic Sabha President, Archibald Furtado, warmly greeting all dignitaries, guests and members present.
This was followed by a Floral Welcome to the dignitaries at 9.25 am, expressing respect and gratitude for their presence.






























At 9.30 am, the Secretary Mrs Margaret DSouza presented a detailed Report on Catholic Sabha Activities of the past 10 months, highlighting various initiatives, programmes and achievements of the Sabha.
At 9.40 am, the programme was officially inaugurated with the Lighting of the Traditional Lamp by
Mr Baptist Dias, Mr Valerian Fernandes and other dignitaries on the dais, symbolising enlightenment and unity.
At 9.45 am, the Portrait of St Devasahayam Pillai was solemnly unveiled by Rev Fr Rohan Mascarenhas, reminding everyone of his inspiring witness of faith and courage, gave a clarion call to follow and imbibe his virtues in life...
Honouring of Laity Leaders
At 9.50 am, a special Felicitation Ceremony was held to honour four dedicated laity leaders. They were introduced by Mrs Zeena D’Souza, former joint secretary of CS.
The honourees were:
* Mr Luke D’Souza, former Vice President of Parish pastoral council and community leader.
* Mr Vincent Lewis, President of Udupi Diocesan St Vincent De Paul Society.
* Mr Tolbert D’Souza, eminent Banker and social worker serving in Lions Club in different capacities.
Their selfless service to the parish and society was gratefully acknowledged with mementos and applause.

























At 9.55 am, the Chief Guest Address was delivered by Rev Fr Rohan Mascarenhas, who spoke inspiringly about the mission of laity and encouraged everyone to actively serve the Church and community motivated by the sacrificial life of St Devasahayam...
Youth Recognition
At 10.05 am, young achievers and leaders were honoured by the Guest of Honour, Mr Santhosh Carnelio and guests on stage.
The session was introduced by MC / Mr Arnold Roche.
The youth honourees were:
* Godwin Mascarenhas youth icon and enterpreneur
* Anthony Mark DSouza Ace sportsman
Their talents and achievements were appreciated, motivating other youth to follow their example.
Mr Baptist Dias, Parish pastoral council Vice President, congratulated all CS Members on Laity Day and assured his best support in coming days.
At 10.10 am, Mr Santhosh Carnelio, former Udupi Pradesh Catholic Sabha President delivered a meaningful message, encouraging young people to use their gifts responsibly for the betterment of society and Church.
Prize Distribution
At 10.15 am, the Parish Priest, Rev Dr Roque D’Souza, distributed prizes which included certificates, cash envelopes and fresh roses to winners.

* 4 Winners – Drawing Competition
(Coordinated by Mr Reuben Rebello, President designated)
The winners were applauded for their creativity and confidence.
At 10.20 am, the Felicitation Address was delivered by Rev Dr Roque D’Souza, appreciating the efforts of Catholic Sabha, organisers and participants. He also honoured the Winners of Elocution Competition and four winners of Sampada sponsored Diocesan drawing competition.
At 10.30 am, the programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by the Secretary, Mrs Margaret DSouza expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event.
Finally, at 10.35 am, the celebration ended on a spiritual note with a Concluding Hymn, ’Somyank Dhinvasuyan’
