Udupi, Jan 13: Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T K instructed the officials to take all necessary precautions to avoid inconvenience to the local public while carrying out the second phase of crude oil collection work in Majuru gram panchayat limits.

She was speaking after presiding over a meeting organized to discuss the second phase of the crude oil collection unit at Padur village under Majuru Gram Panchayat at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Manipal Rajathadri in the city today.
The land required for the development of the crude oil storage unit has been acquired from the public. But some have not received their compensation. The Deputy Commissioner directed the KIADB officials to release the compensation amount to the land owners who gave land for the unit at the earliest.
House video shooting of the surrounding areas should be done before taking up the works of the second phase of the crude oil collection plant. Care should be taken to avoid any kind of damage during the blasting of the rocks while carrying out the work.

She said that the local revenue, survey and KIADB officials should look into the confusion regarding the actual land owners regarding the payment of land acquisition compensation to the owners.
MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty said that necessary steps should be taken to provide clean drinking water to the public as there is a possibility of contamination of water due to blasting of boulders during the work of the crude oil collection unit.
Priority should be given to local people. She said that the workers who have come from outside should be allowed to build separate colonies and live in them, and steps should be taken to ensure the safe movement of vehicles in connection with the work and to avoid inconvenience to the public.

Local people’s representatives and leaders who attended the meeting said that when the first phase of work was taken up, the people of the area had many problems. This time too, they brought their problems to the notice of the meeting to ensure that they do not recur.
Additional District Collector Abid Gadyala, Mazoor Gram Panchayat President, Tehsildar, Taluk Panchayat EO, KIADB officials and others were present in the meeting.
