Shirva, Dec 8: A mega cardiology camp was organized on December 7 at Don Bosco English School, Shirva, in association with Saud Church, Shirva, Udupi Diocesan Health Commission, Catholic Sabha, Stree Sanghatane, Senior Citizen Club, ICYM, Zonal Health Commission and Centre for Economic and Social Networking (CENS), Mahe Manipal.

Before the formal program, Dr. Padmanabha Kamath delivered an informative address to the youth on the theme "Protect Young Hearts".

On this occasion, the Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, Dr. H.S. Ballal was felicitated on the occasion. In his address after the felicitation, Dr. H. S. Ballal highlighted the need for conducting such health camps in rural areas by highlighting the importance of creating awareness among the women fraternity.He congratulated the organizers for this meaningful event.

The chief guest of the day was Dr Padmanabha Kamath, founder of Cardiology at Door Steps (CAD) and unit head of the department of Cardiology, KMC, Mangaluru addressing the gathering stressed on the importance of heart health.

Rev Fr Kiran Nazareth, director of ICYM, Shirva, presided over the programme. In his presidential address, he highlighted the importance of heart health and stressed the need to create awareness about mental health in the community.

In the programme, ECG machines were handed over to Belapu and Padubelle Community Health Centres, which were handed over to Community Health Centre Medical Officer Divya Anantha Gowda and Padubelle CHO Health Centre Medical Officer Dr. Subramanya Rao.

Member of Udupi Diocese Health Commission Dr. Rayan Mathias gave introduction on Dr. H. S.Ballal and John Fernandes, convener of Shirva Health Commission, introduced on Dr Padmanabha Kamath. Retired teacher Gilbert Pinto compered the programme.

Melwyn Aranha, vice president of Shirva parish pastoral council welcomed the gathering. Convener of Udupi Diocesan Health Commission Hilda Cornelio proposed the vote of thanks and thanked all those who supported the programme including Manipal College of Health Professions, Goretti Hospital, Cardiology at Door Steps (CAD) Primary Health Centre, Shirva, Mudarangady, Moodubettu, and Shirva Branch Manager of Karnataka Bank.

Fr Rolvin Aranha, principal of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva, was also present on the occasion.

The public benefited from free services including random blood sugar check-up, blood pressure monitoring, body balance analysis, bone density tests, diabetic foot assessments, liver tests, ECG tests and consultations. In all, the mega cardiac camp benefited more than 200 members of the community.
