Udupi, Oct 14: Udupi Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha MP Kota Srinivas Poojary instructed the highway officials and engineers to expedite the highway works undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India in the district and complete them in a time-bound manner.

He was speaking at a review meeting on the progress of H. 66 and 169A development works at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Manipal. .

He instructed the officials and contractors to expedite the work on the Kalyanpur-Santhekatte national highway and complete the work at the earliest to facilitate the public.

The construction work of the flyover at Ambalpady Junction is in progress. The work should be completed within the stipulated time, he said.

The construction work of the flyover at Katapadi has already been planned. The work will begin in the first week of November. Necessary steps should be taken in accordance with the traffic on the service road to facilitate the movement of vehicles in the wake of the closure of the highway during the work, the work of shifting the electric wire poles on the highway should be started from tomorrow. The work on the service road should be expedited. The forest department should immediately remove the trees, he said.

Street lights should be installed near Uchila Mahalakshmi temple. In the last meeting, it was suggested to reduce the number of vehicle accidents and make it an accident-free zone by carrying out scientific works in the 22 block spots already identified, action has been taken only in Kaup and Padubidri. The works in the remaining blocks should be taken up on priority. He said that highway maintenance works should not be limited to toll collection alone, adding that the police department is installing cameras to identify over-speeding vehicles on the highway.

Road development work of 2.2 km from 169A Malpe to Karavali Junction is already in progress. The process of land acquisition for the project should be expedited. He said that immediate steps should be taken to provide compensation to the land owners scientifically.

Regarding 169A in Karkala taluk, there are 6 bus stands in Sanur Gram Panchayat up to Phulkeri Bypass Murathangadi Pre-University College, which should be reconstructed and a protective barrier should be built on the barrier wall of the college.
