Udupi, Oct 11: Agri fairs that enrich the lives of farmers are very meaningful. The number of farmers coming to the district from different parts of the State is increasing day by day. Such agricultural fairs organized for the farmers of the backbone of the country will energize the economy. Let this Krishi Mela emerge as a roadmap for the future, said Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP.





He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day Krishi Mela organised under the aegis of District Agriculture Society, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Mission-Sanjeevani, Zilla Panchayat, Directorate of Cane and Cocoa Development, Kochi, Bank of Baroda (Vijaya Rural Development Foundation), Udupi, Canara Bank, Waramballi and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SRI), Udupi.
More than 200 stalls of different varieties of vegetables, fruits and vegetables were put up at the venue. To give a big boost to the agriculture sector, the central government has implemented more than 2100 schemes worth Rs 42,000 crore. The money has been released. When the central and state governments work in coordination, the agriculture sector registers growth. The farmers will be helped when the central and state governments jointly formulate an action plan to solve the problems of paddy support price and black pepper crops. He said that the problems of the agricultural sector, the organizational stance of the farmers, the development of the farmers should be discussed at the state and central level and the farmers should get the benefit of the schemes.












There is a long-standing demand for an agriculture college in Brahmavar and all possible help will be provided by the Centre for the establishment of the college. He said that if the establishment of the college is a matter of the state, the state government and the agriculture minister pay attention to it and immediately send a proposal to the center for the establishment of the college, then the long-standing demand of the people can be fulfilled by bringing it to the attention of the Union Agriculture Minister.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that Udupi is a very special district and has a climate where 12 types of crops can be grown for 12 months. There is a lot of potential for agriculture in the region. He said that 345 acres of agricultural land in Brahmavar and 110 acres of agricultural land in Baikady would be used for agricultural activities. When the much-needed agricultural college takes shape in the Brahmavar region, it will help the local youth to make a living in agriculture by engaging in agricultural research work. We are also trying to give a new shape to the sugar factory here, which will provide employment opportunities to the locals. Along with agriculture, fishing is also the strength of the coast, which will help the farmers when they get a proper market for their agricultural products. He said that one district one product, Kisan Samman, Fasal Bima, PM Dhan Yojana have been brought for the welfare of farmers.

Karmegam, City Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar, Superintendent of Police S. Deepa Ganiger and other officials took part in meetings. Joint Director of Agriculture Poornima J. C., Joint Director of Fisheries Vivek R., Deputy Director of Horticulture Raju M. Chandrashekar Naik, Deputy Director of Agriculture. Dr. B. M. Dushyanth Kumar, Dr. G. K. Girijesh, Canara Bank Chief Manager Amitabh Shankar, Brahmavar Agriculture College lecturers and staff were present.
