Bengaluru, Oct 9: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah said that the best work is being done in Asia in filling up lakes in the state.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ’Water if Tomorrow "programme organised by the Minor Irrigation Department.

Civilization grew up - all that remains is water. Minister Boseraju is formulating good programmes from the department on water use, water value and groundwater enhancement among the people. It’s a healthy thing. He urged the people to be aware of the importance of water and sanitation.

There are 37 lakh borewells in the state. There are also lakhs of unauthorised borewells which are not on record. It is 8% more than the national average.

Except 144 taluks, the remaining taluks are facing acute shortage of drinking water. For this reason, the KC Value Project was implemented to fill the lakes of Kolar and Chikkaballapur. This is now increasing the ground water level. But there are those who oppose it.

Thousands of crores have been spent on groundwater development in Chikkaballapura, Doddaballapura, Tumakuru and Bengaluru Rural districts. This has led to good ground water development.

Law and Justice Minister D. K. Shivakumar Minister for Minor Irrigation N. S. Boseraju, Minister for Forests and Environment Eshwar Khandre, Chairman of KKRDB Ajay Singh, Magsaysay Award winner environmentalist Rajendra Singh and others were present.
