Udupi, Oct 8: In a thrilling display of nautical ambition and youthful resolve, 72 Navy NCC cadets from Karnataka and Goa undertook a river and ocean sailing expedition by competing for the coveted All India "Ocean Sailing Expedition-MENU (Most Entrepreneurial Naval Unit) 2025" trophy.

On the second day of the camp, the expedition was formally launched by Shri Yashpal Suvarna, MLA, Udupi as the Chief Guest who was received by Commander Ashwin M Rao, Commandant of the camp. The Chief Guest wished the young cadets a safe and inspiring journey ahead.

Former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik was also present on the occasion. Sudhakar Shetty (Director, Gnanasudha PU College, Karkala) was present. In his address, Commander Rao provided an overview of the structure of the expedition and explained the combined mix of training, cultural visits, trekking and community service planned for the cadets.

Prior to sailing, the cadets underwent a 5-day pre-menu training at the SRS campus in Udupi, mastering navigation, rigging and safety protocols.

Starting from the serene Papanasini river in Udyavar, the cadets embark on their journey to the open ocean at Malpe harbour. Their journey then takes them south along the beautiful coastline, covering landmarks such as Mulky coast, Surathkal coast and finally ending at the New Mangalore Port. The same route is taken on the return leg of the sail. In total, the teams are set to cover an impressive distance of 219 km, which is a true testament to their ability.
