Print Udupi, Oct 08: A new medium-sized barge Kaveri connecting Kodi and Bengre Hangarkatte river was dedicated at a cost of Rs 2,05,78, 040 inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Mankala Vaidya today on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport, Mankala Vaidya, while dedicating the barge, said that it will facilitate the local people and tourists to travel from Kodi Benga to Hangarakatte in a short time. He said that if there was no barge, he would have to go round the road.
He said the construction of the bridge would be taken up in the coming days for the benefit of the local people.
He said that the development works of the port will be taken up in a way that it will facilitate the fishing activities in the Hangarkatte port and the dredging work will be done along with it. All possible help will be provided by the government, he said.
Kodi-Bengre village has already been declared a tobacco-free village. It is a good deed for the local people to be de-addicted so that the health of the people can be greatly improved. This should continue.
Joint Director of Fisheries Department Vivek, Vice President of Gram Panchayat Kusuma, leaders Dinesh Hegde, Raju Bangera, Prasad Pingalaiah and others were present.
