Catholic Sabha, Mount Rosary, spread awareness on cleanliness through Shramadaan – 2nd October 2025

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Catholic Sabha Unit of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte – Kallianpur, in association with the Parish Environment Commission (Parisar Ayog), organized a meaningful Shramadaan programme on Thursday, 2nd October 2025, from 9.00 to 11.00 am.

The programme commenced with a short opening ceremony at 9.00 am. The President of Catholic Sabha, Mr. Archibald Furtado, extended a warm and cordial welcome to the gathering, especially to the Parish Priest Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council Mr. Luke D’Souza, Convener of the Parish Environment Commission Mr. Jeffrey Furtado, office bearers and members of both Catholic Sabha and Parisar Ayog, and all enthusiastic volunteers.

In his inspiring address, Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza fondly recalled the enormous contributions of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and highlighted his immortal message that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” Appreciating the initiative, he remarked, “This ‘Shramadaan’ may be a symbolic gesture by Catholic Sabha and Parisar Ayog to clean a small stretch in front of the Church, Hall and School, but it should gradually become a regular agenda until social responsibility and awareness on cleanliness reach the larger masses.” His words and volunteering to broom the ground himself touched and truly motivated the participants.

Following the message, the volunteers actively took part in the cleanliness drive, focusing on the busy Santhekatte junction and the Church surroundings, spreading awareness among the public through their selfless service.

At the conclusion of the short inaugural session, the President of Catholic Sabha, Mr. Archibald Furtado, wholeheartedly acknowledged and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Organizing Team, led by Mr. Dancy Machado and Mr. Peter Lewis, and thanked all volunteers for their enthusiastic participation and teamwork in making the event a resounding success.

The event beautifully echoed the values of Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean and responsible society while inspiring parishioners to embrace cleanliness as a way of life.
