Report on the Felicitation & Prathibha Puraskar Distribution Programme

The much-awaited Felicitation and Prathibha Puraskar Distribution Programme began with registration and breakfast, followed by the customary prayers of Catholic Sabha at 10.00 a.m.

Dr. Gerald Pinto, Convener of the programme and former President of Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh, extended a warm welcome to the gathering and gave a thoughtful introduction on the significance of the day’s event.

The programme was then inaugurated by philanthropists Mr. John D’Silva and Mrs. Gladys D’Silva of the John D’Silva Foundation, Mumbai, together with His Lordship Rt Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, and other distinguished guests on the dais, by lighting the traditional lamp of knowledge.

In his inaugural address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo inspired the students with four golden principles of life:

1. Dream big in life – for dreams give vision and direction.

2. Acquire knowledge to realise those dreams – as knowledge is the foundation of success.

3. Work hard with dedication and concentration – since there are no shortcuts to achievement.

4. Cultivate perseverance – for consistency and determination pave the way to ultimate success.

A shining highlight of the event was the felicitation of Mr. Shreyan Gomes, who recently secured an impressive All-India Rank of 372 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In his motivational message, he encouraged students to aspire for Government service while stressing the values of social responsibility, truthfulness, and sincerity in all walks of life.

Another memorable moment came with the inspiring address by ISRO Scientist Mr. Richard Pinto, who shared his remarkable journey from hardship and poverty to national recognition. His story—marked by willpower, persistence, and unshakable faith—deeply moved the audience, proving that no obstacle is too great when determination lights the path.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Mr. Ronald D’Almeida, President of Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. John D’Silva and family for their concern, generosity, and benevolence in sponsoring the Prathibha Puraskar year after year. He congratulated Doctorates, Chartered Accountants, and the meritorious students from various parishes who excelled in Class X and P.U. examinations. The awardees, who received cash prizes, certificates, and honours, joyfully shared their feelings and expressed gratitude to the Catholic Sabha and the D’Silva family.

The programme was compered gracefully by Mr. Eric Soans of Barkur and Mr. Louis D’Souza, President-designate, while Mr. Joel D’Almeida, Secretary, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The occasion was graced by philanthropists Mr. & Mrs. John D’Silva, Past Presidents including Mr. Santhosh Carnelio, Convenor and Coordinator Dr. Gerald Pinto, and Treasurer Mr. G. Urban Lewis.

The event concluded with a fellowship lunch, leaving behind a lasting impression of inspiration, gratitude, and renewed determination among students and participants alike.
