Print Udupi, July 19 : Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting to sanction a special grant of Rs 50 crore for rain damage related works in Udupi Assembly constituency
The average rainfall in the month of May in Udupi district is 166 mm. instead of 837mm. There was 409 per cent excess rainfall. The month of June also witnessed the highest rainfall in the country with Udupi district recording the highest rainfall.
Several areas in the district have been inundated and rescue operations are underway. Sea erosion is a problem in many coastal areas. Hundreds of houses, roads, bridges, culverts, houses, farms, crops have been damaged in the floods.
In the last two years, traffic has become difficult due to lack of proper maintenance of rural roads and non-release of funds under natural disaster. Adequate funds are required for the maintenance and repair of public properties. He demanded a special grant of Rs. 50 lakh for the purpose.
