Report on MCA Ladies Night in Washington DC

Washington DC, May 30, 2025: Mangalorean Catholic Association of Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia (MCA-DMV) hosted “MCA Ladies Night - Disco Fiesta” on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

This was the third year in succession that the MCA ladies celebrated their get together event, but the report is being published for the first time this year.

The event started with the warm and empowering welcome speech by the President Flavie Rebello who then proudly introduced the lady committee members to the women gathered at the hall.

Then it was followed up with a thoughtful and heartwarming icebreaker game called  “Her Story in Words” that provided an opportunity to all the ladies to share one sentence about themselves and then elaborating into their dreams and life journeys with humor at best. It was the perfect warm-up to the evening party.

Several games with spot prizes were conducted by the MC Renita Nazareth, who kept the crowd engaged with a lot of energy. Then it was time for the performances on the stage that were very sensational and each performance drew a lot of applause. The first disco dance was performed by Anita, Shanaya, Flavie, Renita, Prash and Naina that had everyone clapping and grooving in their seats. It was followed by fiery, flavorful Mexican-themed performance by Merlyn Mathias, Wilma Andrade and Julia Dante and this act created waves of laughter and continuous applause by the audience.

Then it was time for music and dance.  As the DJ of the night Merlyn Mathias dropped those disco beats, ladies could not resist dancing to the beats. A shoutout goes to Shanaya and Malin for bringing the hype and setting the vibe with their lead which made the night unforgettable.

As the traditional highlight of the ladies party, the Ramp Walk was memorable where the ladies exhibited their confidence and style like true queens with charisma, glamour, grace, and bold moves. The audience cheered as the participants walked up the ramp to showcase their best moves.

And then it was time for the crowning of the Disco Queen. The lady who stole the show on the dance floor Lovinia Lopes-Faison walked away with the crown amid loud applause. The judges for the this contest were Esmie wright , Jessie Dsouza, Priya Dmello and Anitha Furtado who were appreciated by the contestants for their fairness.

It was then time for the much awaited karaoke sessions with melodic and manic music that was absolutely iconic. Not to forget that there was a Photo Booth Corner organized by Anita Furtado and Shanaya Fernandes that allowed everyone to take striking poses.

As the night drew to a close, it was time prayer to express the moment of gratitude for friendship, joy, and the power of coming together and was led by the President. That brought a tender close to the evening’s formal segment. It was followed by thanksgiving note by the Treasurer Genevieve Albuquerque.

The food theme was Mexican and a variety of Mexican dishes were served, such as tacos, nachos, enchiladas, guacamole, and more. Those were accompanied with special drinks such as margarita mayhem and other cocktails to enjoy.

Special thanks go to Julia Dante for her tireless efforts in finding and reserving the venue amidst many hurdles, and this event would not have been possible without her help. Shoutouts go to Anita Furtado for the colorful backdrop, Naina for the photography and Genevieve and Stephanie for registration.

I have been following up The Mangalorean Assocaition of Washington DC for quite many years since my cousin lives there. Over the past few years, they have made a lot of progress and have come a long way to grow the community offering a variety of programs to attract more members. Kudos to everyone .!
