Udupi, May 31: People are complaining to the Udupi Urban Development Authority about the problems of the single design map, which is causing difficulties in the construction of houses and buildings. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha MP Kota Srinivas Poojary said that appropriate action should be taken to resolve the issue within a fortnight.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting organised to discuss the problems faced in the Univision Map and Model 9/11 held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Hall, Rajathadri, Manipal today.
The petitioners are fed up of following the policy of delay without reason after being delegated to the 9/11 authority, which was dispensing in the gramme panchayat. Despite the government’s circular to approve a single design map leaving 6 meters of the road edge, thousands of files are pending disposal due to the negligence of the authority. He said that the authorities should dispose of all the files within 15 days.

According to the circular, if the urban local bodies send a proposal that the existing roads cannot be widened, then the government order giving permission for only 3.5 m should be followed. He said that the menace of middlemen in the authority should be stopped immediately and the problems of the common people should be removed.
MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that more than 11,000 applications are pending with the Urban Development Authority for approval of a single design map in the district.
MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi said that applicants from far-flung places like Kundapur and Byndoor are constantly coming to the authority. The officials should understand the problems of the people and solve them immediately, he said.
Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty said that the district administration and people’s representatives are getting a bad name due to the single design map approval issue. He said immediate steps would be taken in this regard.
Speaking at the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abida Gadyal asked the authority to approve the applications without delay so that applicants coming from far-off places are not inconvenienced and the gramme panchayat recommendations are accepted.
After a long discussion, the Assistant Director of the Authority said that the files would be disposed of within 15 days after fixing 6 meters of the edge of the road and obtaining permission from the Public Works Department.


Udupi Municipal Council President Prabhakar Poojary, Urban Development Authority Chairman Dinakara Herur, Municipal Commissioner Mahesh, Kundapur and Kapu Nagar Authority Member Naveen, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Kiran, Panchayat Raj Engineering Division official Jnanamurthy, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers, Municipal and Town Panchayat Heads and other officers were present.
