Udupi, May 28: Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari said that along with protecting the rights of children, the authorities should create a conducive environment for children to lead a healthy life in society and build a good future.
She was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of various committees of the District Child Protection Unit held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Rajathadri in Manipal on Monday.

Children who are begging, child labourers, missing children, children of drug addicts, abandoned children, children of child marriage, children who are victims of violence and sexual abuse, children deprived of education should call the Child Protection Unit helpline number 1098 / 112 for the protection of such children.

Awareness programmes on child marriage and POCSO Act should be organised in schools and colleges. Parents should also be sensitised on the issue, she said.

Taluk level Child Development Project Officers, Child Protection Committee, Village Level Child Protection Committee and Child Watch Committee meetings should be held regularly every quarter, she said.

Senior Civil Judge and Member of the District Legal Services Authority, Yogesh PR, District Child Protection Officer Nagarathna Nayak, various district level officials, staff of child protection unit and others were present.
