Health awareness camp with an impulse to prevent cancer at Mount Rosary, Kallianpur

Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal; Department of Nutrition, Kasturba Hospital and Department of OBG and Psychiatry nursing, Manipal College Of Nursing(MCON) in association with Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte, Kallianpur, Catholic Sabha Mount Rosary, ICYM mount Rosary, Rotary club, Kallianpur organized health awareness camp with an impulse to prevent cancer among youngsters at Mount Rosary English school, Santhekatte on 30th March 2025, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr Ashwini Kumar, Professor and Head of Department, Community Medicine and Dr Ranjitha Shetty, Additional Professor, Department of Community Medicine & Coordinator, Centre for Community Oncology, KMC, Manipal.

The program was presided by the Parish Priest of Mount Rosary church. There was free cancer screening, nutrition parenting skills awareness and basic life support, hands on training by experts in the field. Dr Akhila D, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine delivered a health awareness session on breast and cervical cancer with emphasis on HPV vaccination. The health awareness session about nutrition was delivered by Dr Suvarna Hebbar, Assistant professor- senior scale, Department of Nutrition, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal. Self-Examination by Ms. Sweety Fernandes, Dept of OBG, MCHP, Manipal. Information about Basic Life Support by Dr Melita Selini, Adult Health Nursing, MCHP, Manipal. President members who actively participated in the program were Mrs. Laveena Menezes, Sthree Sanghatan; Mr. Elias Dsouza, Catholic Sabha; Mrs. Shaila Dcosta, Health Commission; Mr. Ruben Dmello, ICYM; Baptist Dias, Rotary Kallianpur. Other team members from KMC/KH, Manipal were Mrs. Hilda with trainees: Miss Pushpalatha, Medical social worker; Miss Pooja, Research assistant, Lab assistant, Mr. Shreesha, ANM, Mrs. Susheela, Mrs. Surekha, Mrs. Vinodha, Mrs. Poornima, Miss Keerthi, General help, Mrs. Kamala from KMC, Manipal were also present.

The services provided in the camp were general health check-up, testing of random blood glucose, Blood Pressure measurement, Breast Examination with the help of handheld iBE machine and PAP Smear.

The total number of beneficiaries availing of the above services was- 70 beneficiaries
