Manipal, March 25, 2025 – The Make-A-Wish Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, brightened the lives of children undergoing cancer treatment by fulfilling their heartfelt wishes. This special initiative aimed to bring smiles to the faces of young patients and their families, providing a moment of joy amidst their challenging journey.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a globally recognized nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to granting wishes to seriously ill children. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the foundation operates through 58 chapters across the United States and has expanded its reach to over 50 countries through international affiliates.

Today’s event was organized by Kasturba Hospital in association with the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Bangalore Chapter. A star-studded gathering marked the occasion with notable personalities gracing the event. Actor and comedian Gilli Nata (Nataraj) and actor Karthik Attavar, both renowned figures in Kannada and Tulu cinema, were the chief guests. The event also saw the presence of distinguished figures such as Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal, Dr. Anand Venugopal, COO of Teaching Hospitals, MAHE, Manipal, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, and Mr. A.B. Bosco, representing the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The program began with an insightful welcome from Dr. Vasudeva Bhat, Professor and Head of Pediatric Oncology at Kasturba Hospital. He provided an overview of the initiative, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for their support and commitment to bringing happiness to the children in treatment. Dr. Bhat also welcomed the esteemed gathering of guests, highlighting the importance of the event in uplifting the spirits of the young patients and their families during their challenging times.

As part of the event, 50 children undergoing treatment at the hospital were presented with gifts of their choice costing more than Rs 7 lakhs, fulfilling wishes that brought them moments of happiness. These thoughtful gestures are part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s commitment to providing emotional support to children battling life-threatening conditions.

During the program, Mr. Gilli Nata entertained the young patients, spreading laughter and joy. His light-hearted interaction with the children lifted their spirits, making the event even more memorable.

Actor Karthik Attavar also expressed his heartfelt support, sharing words of encouragement with the children and their families, reminding them of the strength and resilience they possess in their fight against cancer.

The program left a lasting impact on both the children and the attendees, reinforcing the importance of kindness, empathy, and community support in the battle against illness. Through this heartwarming collaboration, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Kasturba Hospital have once again demonstrated their dedication to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Dr Emine A Rahiman proposed vote of thanks and Dr Swathi was the Master of ceremony for the program.
