Malpe: Brutal assault on Dalit woman with tied to tree, police arrest four including two women.

Malpe police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident in which a Dalit woman from Vijayanagar district was tied to a tree and brutally assaulted for allegedly stealing fish from Malpe port in Udupi district.

The arrested persons have been identified as Laxmibai, Sundar, Shilpa and another person.

On March 18, a video of a woman from Vijayanagar district being assaulted went viral on social media, and the Malpe police, who investigated the matter, registered a case based on the complaint filed by the assaulted woman.

The woman was attacked by a woman named Lakshmibai, who accused her of stealing fish in the harbour. In the video, locals can be seen tying the woman to a tree and beating her up. A case has been registered at the Malpe police station on the basis of the woman’s complaint, the SP said.

Four people have been arrested for the assault in the video. The role of others will be investigated through video and legal action will be taken, SP K Arun said.

ಈ ಪ್ರಕರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಪಿತರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ, ಶಿಲ್ಪ  ಮತ್ತು  ಸುಂದರ್ ರವರನ್ನು  ಬಂದಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಇನ್ನೋರ್ವ ಶಂಕಿತನನ್ನು ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.  ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ, ಮುಂದೆ ಕಾನೂನು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುವುದು.
