Udupi : Jayashree Krishna Parisara Premi Samiti, an NGO in undivided Dakshina Kannada, has urged the state government Power Minister K. G. George that to ensure 24x7 uninterrupted electric power supply for the undivided Dakshina Kannada district as people of both undivided district here have borne the 1300 megawatt capacity thermal power plant near Padubidri of Kaup taluk of Udupi district.

Addressing a press conference in Udupi Press Club here on Saturday, March 15, Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty, Founder President of Jayashree Krishna Parisara Premi Samiti NGO said that samiti will soon meet State Energy Minister K G George and urge him to ensure that Udupi and DK districts get 24x7 power supply. Presently about 45% of the power supply generated in Adani-owned thermal power plant is going to Bengaluru. He said that we are not against the supply of power to the Bengaluru city. However, the twin districts cannot be deprived of power as several industries and households are suffering due to now and then power cut problem.

Shetty said that the samiti had made people of Udupi aware the benefit of having power plant, as it would ensure round the clock power supply to the host district of Udupi. After convincing the people in the Udupi district for about six years, the power plant could be started in Kemendlu, Yellur village, near Padubidri of Kaup taluk of Udupi district in 2010.. At that time then energy min ister K S Eshwarappa had assured Jayashree Krishna Parisara Premi Samiti’s office bearers that only after the power needs of Udupi and DK districts are fulfilled, the remaining power will be supplied to other districts. Now, power cut is being felt by the people in Udupi and DK district, Thonse Jayashree Krishna Shetty said.

Shetty said that the samiti office bearers will visit the Energy Minister K. G. George in Bengaluru and will conduct the meeting with the minister concerned.
