Joyful and Empowering Celebration of International Women’s Day at Bondel Parish.
The Ladies’ Association of City Varado, Mangalore, in collaboration with the leadership of all unit associations, joyfully celebrated International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 9th, at St Lawrence Church Hall, Bondel, fostering unity and love.
On Sunday, March 9th, the day began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves Director Ladies Association Bondel.
The liturgy was led by members of the Ladies’ Association, and the choir from the Ladies’ Association enriched the celebration with their soulful singing.
The program commenced at 9:45 a.m. in the St Lawrence Church Hall, with the esteemed guests being welcomed by a grand band performance. The event began with a prayer song and a graceful welcome dance by the Bondel Ladies Association. Each guest was then warmly welcomed with a rose by the respective presidents of the Ladies’ Associations.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2025, "Accelerate Action," was creatively presented and inaugurated by the priest on the dais, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the women guests. This was followed by a heartfelt welcome address delivered by Mrs Ida Sequeira, President of City Varado.
The esteemed guests on the dais included Rev. Fr Sylvester D’Costa, Director of the Ladies’ Association, City Varado; Guest of Honour Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish Priest of Bondel Parish; Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, Director of the Ladies’ Association, Bondel; Mrs Anitha Frank, Secretary of the Ladies’ Commission, Mangalore Diocese; Resource Person Advocate Vijetha Pinky D’Sa; Mrs Ida Sequeira, President; and Mrs. Clara Pinto, Secretary of City Varado.
Mr John D’Silva, President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mr Santhosh Misquith, Secretary, and Rev. Fr William D’Souza were also present for the program.
Mrs Anitha Frank, in her inaugural address, highlighted women’s strength and resilience, urging them to love, unite, and uplift each other. She emphasized that women, from the kitchen to the moon, are practical and resourceful, advocating for economic empowerment and financial independence. She also congratulated the City Varado Ladies’ Association for organizing a successful and meaningful program.
Guest of Honour Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, in his message on International Women’s Day, emphasized that women are the beauty of the home, church, and society. He highlighted their role as peacemakers, coordinators, and strong pillars of cooperation. Women are blessed in many ways and hold a place that no one can substitute. He also acknowledged their ability to gracefully balance multiple roles in life.
Rev. Fr Sylvester D’Costa, Director of the City Varado Ladies’ Association, emphasized the vital role of women in building a compassionate and progressive society. He acknowledged their dedication, perseverance, and invaluable contributions to the Church and community. Highlighting the importance of empowerment and equality, he encouraged women to recognize their potential, stay strong in faith, and continue making a meaningful impact in all aspects of life.
The prize distribution was announced by Mrs Clara Pinto, and the winners were honored with prizes presented by the esteemed guests on the dais.
Resource person Advocate Mrs Vietnam Pinky D’Sa was introduced by Mrs Usha Fernandes, President of the Ladies’ Association, Neermarga. In her insightful talk, she discussed Indian laws and women’s rights, covering essential topics such as wills, property issues, women-centric laws, the Domestic Violence Act, and the Senior Citizens Act. Her session was highly informative, empowering women with valuable legal knowledge and awareness.
The cultural program, presented by 11 parish members of the City Varado Ladies’ Association, was lively, engaging, and visually captivating. Women of all ages, from the young to the elderly, graced the stage, showcasing their talents. Each participant gave their best, entertaining the audience and highlighting the power of unity, strength, and togetherness through diverse and vibrant performances.
Dr Preethi Keerthi D’Souza expertly compered the stage program, while Mrs Anitha Concesso coordinated the cultural program, ensuring a smooth and engaging flow. Mrs Clara Pinto delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing deep gratitude to everyone for their contributions.
Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves led a heartfelt prayer before the meal, invoking blessings and gratitude. The event concluded with a joyful fellowship meal, fostering unity, love, and togetherness among all attendees.
The program concluded with a vibrant Baila dance, where all the ladies danced with joy and boundless energy. It was a truly memorable Women’s Day celebration at Bondel Parish, filled with laughter, unity, and cherished moments.
