Manipal, January 19, 2025 – In a remarkable achievement, a team of BTech (Mechatronics) students from Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) secured first place in the Capstone Project Competition conducted by Bosch Global Software Technologies (BGSW) on December 13, 2024.

The competition, held at the Bosch Adugodi Campus in Bengaluru, recognized the excellence of Ms. Pragya Sujit Kumar and Mr. Srikar Bharadwaj R for their innovative project titled **"Design of Onboard Charger for E-Bike Application."
The students attended an 8-week Master Class on Electric Vehicles (EV) conducted by BGSW in collaboration with IEEE Kerala, which provided them with valuable insights and expertise prior to their participation. The Capstone Project Competition was a highly competitive event, with nearly 900 participants from across India, and only 20 groups were shortlisted for the final presentation. The winning project was developed and simulated using Simulink and was presented to a panel of expert juries from Bosch, MathWorks, and IEEE Kerala.
Dr. D. V. Kamath, Professor and Head of the Department of Mechatronics at MIT, expressed his pride in student achievement. "We are extremely proud of Pragya and Srikar for their hard work and dedication to this project. Their success in the Capstone Project Competition highlights their technical skills and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. This is a testament to the high-quality education and mentorship that MIT provides its students."
He further added, "The competition provided a great platform for our students to showcase their talent, and their win is a reflection of their commitment and passion for innovation in the field of Mechatronics. It is a proud moment for the Department of Mechatronics and Manipal Institute of Technology as a whole."
Dr. (Cdr). Anil Rana, Director of Manipal Institute of Technology, also commended the students on their outstanding achievements. "This victory by Pragya and Srikar demonstrates the spirit of innovation and excellence that we cultivate at MIT. Their accomplishment is not just a milestone for them personally, but also for the institute as it continues to establish itself as a leading hub for cutting-edge research and technical education. The recognition from a global leader like Bosch is a testament to the caliber of our students and faculty."
The Best Capstone Project Award is a significant recognition of the student’s exceptional work and ability to contribute to the rapidly growing field of Electric Vehicles. The project, which focuses on designing an efficient onboard charger for e-bikes, showcases the students’ deep understanding of renewable energy solutions and advanced engineering techniques.
This achievement underscores the strong academic foundation at Manipal Institute of Technology, where students are encouraged to push the boundaries of innovation and contribute meaningfully to the technological advancements of tomorrow.
