Udupi, December 03: It is the responsibility of the society and the government to make it possible for people with disabilities to earn the love and trust of everyone in the society and live confidently. In this regard, everyone should be proactive, K Vidyakumari said.
Addressing during the programme with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Women and Child Development Department, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens, Police Department, Health Department, Voluntary Organizations working in the field of Persons with Disabilities and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities today at Shrimati Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Sabha Bhavan (Mini Hall) in the city. and inaugurated the World Day of Persons with Disabilities program held under the joint auspices of Parents’ Organization Udupi District.
She said that many schools, colleges and organizations are working for the empowerment of children with disabilities, and in the present time, learning and skill development is creating hope for the disabled to achieve success in their lives.
She said that by recognizing and encouraging the talents of mentally challenged children, it is possible to demonstrate that they have indomitable strength despite their weaknesses. Many schemes have been implemented by the government for the all-round development of mentally challenged children. She said that information about these should be adequately delivered.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority PR Yogesh said that not only the family members but every citizen should join hands for the prosperity of the disabled. She said that many rights have been given to the disabled under the law and they should cooperate in the development of the disabled so as not to detract from their credit and human rights.
Chairman of Urban Development Authority Dinakara Heroor and DDPI Ganapathi spoke during the occasion.
Municipal Council President Prabhakar Pujari presided over the program and said that medical expenses, scholarships and other facilities are provided for the benefit of the disabled in the local institutions, so take advantage of this.
On the same occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of the sports competition organized for special school children and the differently abled of all taluks. An exhibition of handicrafts prepared by special school children was held. A cultural program was organized by special school children and the differently abled.
District Panchayat Chief Executive Prateek Boyal, City Council Member Vijay Kodavur, Red Cross Chairman Basrur Rajeev Shetty, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. IP Gadad, Retired Assistant Director of VHINAS Department Niranjan Bhat, Karnataka State Teachers Association Honorary President Agnes Kunder, Parents and Parents Association President Jaya Vitthal, DDRC staff, special school children, teachers and others were present.
Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department Shyamala C.K gave an introductory speech, District President of Special Teachers’ Association Ravindra H and State President of Teachers and Teachers’ Association of Mentally Handicapped Dr. Kanti presented, District Disabled Welfare Officer Ratna gave a warm welcome.
