Udupi: Women’s health Awareness at RSB Bhavan, Manipal

Awareness session & screening for high blood pressure, Diabetes, anemia, breast and cervical cancer at RSB Bhavan, Manipal

Women’s health camp (awareness session & screening for high blood pressure, Diabetes, anemia, breast and cervical cancer) was organized at RSB Bhavana, Manipal on 13th October 2024, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This event was organized by Rajapura Saaraswata Brahmana Sangha, Manipal, Rajapura Saaraswata Brahmana Vedike, Manipal in association with the Centre for Community Oncology, Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), MAHE, Manipal.

The event began with a brief inaugural program by lighting the lamp. Among the dignitaries’ present were Mr. Nityananda Nayak, Chief Secretary of RSB Sangha, Manipal Mrs. Roopa Nayak, President of RSB Mahila Vedike, Manipal, Dr. Akhila D, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KMC, MAHE, Manipal, Mrs. Sarojini Prabhu Kodibettu, member of RSB Mahila Vedike and coordinator of the camp. Mrs. Chandrika, Secretary of RSB Mahila Vedike, Manipal gave the vote of thanks.
         
Following the inauguration, Dr. Akhila D,delivered a detailed breast and cervical cancer awareness talk commemmorating the breast cancer awareness month. She explained the symptoms of breast and cervical cancer, importance of regular check-ups for early detection; especially breast self-examination and pap smear test were mentioned, noting that cancer can often be cured if detected early. Late-stage detection, however, poses significant challenges in treatment. A question-and-answer session was conducted towards the end of the session, during which the beneficiaries actively participated, seeking clarification on various aspects of breast and cervical cancer.

The awareness session concluded with information on the upcoming breast, cervical, and oral cancer screening activities organized by Dr. Ranjitha S. Shetty, Coordinator, Centre for Community Oncology, Department of Community Medicine, KMC, MAHE, Manipal across Udupi district. Beneficiaries of these camps will also receive assistance in navigating further diagnostic procedures at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

Following the awareness session, screening for high blood pressure, Diabetes, anemia, breast and cervical cancer was done for a total of 50 beneficiaries. The event was well-received, and the participants expressed their appreciation for the information and services provided.
