Udupi: The earth mother is a woman, the mother who gave birth is a woman, the one who becomes a wife is a woman, the one who is born as a daughter is a woman, the role of all of them is important in our life, while the birth of a girl child is not a curse but a boon, said Rev Fr. Denis D’sa, Parish priest of Thottam St Ann’s Church.
He was speaking on Sunday while inaugurating the Girl Child Day program organized by the Women’s Organization (Sthree Sanghaton) of the Church unit. Inauguration was done in a special way by telling about the importance of women in the way they serve in the society through song metaphor.
In today’s modern society, we have many examples that a woman can achieve anything if she puts her mind to it. Sunita Williams, Saina Nehwal Sindhu are known for their achievements in various fields. Today, girls are achieving equally as well as boys. Girls should protect themselves. He said that girls should be given an opportunity to inquire and take decisions independently along with education.
Professor Genevieve Kavita Coutinho of Alwas College gave a lecture on problems and solutions of girl child.
Meanwhile, various competitions and cultural programs were held for the women members of the church.
Gracy Cuvello, President of Udupi Diocese of Women’s Organization, Marina Lewis, President of Kallianpur Zone, Sunil Fernandes, Vice President of Thottam Parish Pastoral Council were present in the program.
Lucy Fernandes, President of Thottam Unit, welcomed the gathering and Lavina Fernandes compared the programme.
