Udupi : M/s. M11 Industries Private Limited located at survey no 155 & 169 at Nandikoor village near Devarakadu area, Kaup taluk. The industry authorities has obtained the CFO from the Board under Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act 1974 and Air Prevention and Control of Pollution Act 1981 for the manufacture of refined Palm Oil of capacity of 15000 MTPM which is valid for the period up to September 30, 2032. They have obtained the addendum to the consent order for the change of product from refined palm oil to refined non-edible oil.

Addressing a press meet held at Udupi Press Club here on Monday, July 29, Saumalatha Shetty, Palimar Gram Panchayat President said that based on the repeated complaints, Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty conducted the meeting with industry authorities and other departmental heads along with complainants on June 18 during the meeting, local MLA has alleged that industry authorities are discharging the untreated effluent to outside the premises in the storm water drain which is causing contamination to the open well water of the open well water of the residents. The complainant has also submitted the test report of the drain water collected on May 28. Hence, the industry and surrounding area was inspected on June 18, based on the observations made during the inspection, Regional Office, Udupi issued notice to the industry. But the industry authority has failed to replay to the notice issued.

She said that the industry was in operation and refinery plant was in operation. The traces of oil spillages are observed in the storm water drains which flows from inside the industry outside the premises. Spillages are observed in the raw material unloading area which ultimately joins the storm water drain. Industry authorities have not provided the dyke wall and catch pit to arrest the spillage from unloading area of the raw material. Industry authorities not provided the roofing system to the ETP to avoid the mixing of rainwater into effluent. Not started any work related the rainwater harvesting system. Smell nuisance was felt near the industry premises near the industry premises near the refinery and in the surrounding area.

The people of surrounding villages Palimar, Nadsalu, Padabettu, Yellur, Hejmady, Inna and Karnere people facing severe problems of environmental pollution, water pollution and other unnatural disasters.

Hence, she said that the protest meet will be organized with all the political support and people of affected gram panchayats are support on Tuesday, July 30 at Nandikoor village.

Laxman Shetty, Nagesh Rao, Dinesh Kotian, Trieshwara Pai and others were present during the press meet.
