Udupi: Ivan D’Souza has a beating heart for the cause and is the voice of the coast raising voice for the rights of the common people, said Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Catholic Diocese.

Bishop was presided over the public felicitation program for Ivan D’Souza, newly elected Member of Legislative Council of Government of Karnataka jointly organized by All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights, Udupi, CSI, UBMC, Orthodox Syrian Churches, Catholic Sabha Udupi Region, Catholic Women’s Organization of Udupi Diocese, Indian Catholic Youth Movement Udupi, and like-minded people of the district held at Basil Mission Memorial Auditorium at Mission compound here.

Imbued with leadership qualities from a young age, may Ivan continue to serve as a voice for the voiceless in providing their rights. He said that he will get recognition from the people for his behavior of going to the people and responding to their problems.

Receiving the honor, Ivan D’Souza said that he has been elected as an MLA for all classes of religions, but I will be the first to raise my voice if any injustice is done to my Christian community. Politics today is not a bed of flowers but also a bed of thorns. Today, I am going to raise my voice against bringing a law on the basis of hatred, caste and religion and causing problems in people’s lives. It is a relief that when he was a member earlier, he brought about 7 crores of Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund regardless of caste and vote.

He said that people will never give up when they dream for development and will work for the community for the next 6 years.

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Ivan D’Souza has been serving the people continuously without compromising with his principles since his student life. He shed light on society’s problems by asking a lot of questions when he became a member of Vidhan Parishad for the first time. He said that the grant that was available when he got the opportunity was provided to the two districts and based on the principle he believed in, he got the opportunity to become a council member again today.
