Udupi, January 12: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje informed that an overpass is being constructed very fast at a cost of 21.26 crores at Santhekatta of the National Highway passing through Udupi to avoid traffic and accidents and for smooth movement of vehicles.

She was speaking today after inauguration of the overpass work at Santhekatte Junction NH66, Kallianpur .

Santhekatte Junction on the National Highway is very congested with more than 4500 vehicles plying here every day and it has been identified as a major block spot. Construction of over pass is very necessary for smooth movement of public and vehicles in this part and it has been a major demand of public for many years. The minister directed the officials of National Highways to carry out this work in 3 shifts in a day and complete it at the earliest.

The Minister said that construction of over pass will be carried out at Ambalapadi of National Highway at a cost of 22 crores and told the Police Department and National Highway officials to take alternative measures to prevent vehicular movement till the completion of the work at Santhekatte.

MLAs Haladi Srinivasa Shetty, K. Raghupathi Bhatt, Municipal Council Chairperson Sumitra R Nayak, Urban Development Authority Chairman Manohar Kalmadi, District Collector Kurmarao M, SP Hawke Akshay Machindra, National Highway Authority Project Director Linge Gowda, Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Lakshmi Manjunath, Member Manjula, Dinesh Pai and Implementation officers of various departments were present.
