Indian Cultural Centre Holds Contests to Commemorate 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Indian Cultural Centre held Painting and Speech Competition amongst Indians in Qatar to Commemorate the 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Theme of the Painting Competition was Mahatma Gandhi’s Works, Ideas, Dreams or Mahatma Gandhi himself whereas the theme for the Speech Competition was the Role of Mahatma Gandhi in relevance of the present Socio-economic system in India. About two hundred and four participants and thirty participants took part in the Painting and Speech Competition respectively. Both the Competition were planned and conducted with complete precautions of COVID19 taken for the Participants, Judges and the Organizers. A Zoom Meeting was held on Friday 02 October 2020, for the participants for announcing the winners of the Competition.
Punnya Pramod, GuruPrasad Bekal Kudrekode and Veena Mahesh First, Second and Third Prizes in the Painting Competition. Consolation Prizes for outstanding painting were given to Sanjeena Banerji, Palak Banzal, Abdul Hisab Mohammed, Anum Manzoor, Kotla Kanishk and Joyal Ishwani. Indian Cultural Centre had nominated independent & Experienced Painting Professionals in Dr.Sreekumar Padmanaban, Archana Bhardwaj and Mahesh kumar as Judges for the Painting Competition

Tanisha Gnansekaran, Hafsa Anjum Allah Bakash and Lavanya Kodappully Baiju First, Second and Third Prizes in the Speech Competition. Consolation Prizes for outstanding Speeches were given to Tripti Jain and Abdulla Polyil Ammed, with a Special Jury Award for Enthusiasm given to Kush Parsekar. Indian Cultural Centre had nominated independent & Experienced Professionals in Jayakumar Menon, Susmita Pattnaik and Asha Shiju as Judges for the Speech Competition.
In his Welcome address to the participant on Zoom Meeting, Manikantan AP the President of Indian Cultural Center appreciated the wholehearted participation of all the participants and thanked them for it. He added that in such competition Participation was more important than Winning and that All Participants, according to ICC, are Winners in the Society. He later announced the Winners of the Painting Competition. Vinod V Nair, in his address said that all the thirty speeches made by the participants were very relevant to this era and it was a very difficult decision for the Judges to select the three winners, which he later announced to the meeting audience
Rajesh Singh, the Head of Finance and Sponsorship for ICC was the Master of Ceremonies and the host of the Zoom Meeting. Seenu Pillai (General Secretary) and Nayana Wagh (Head of Cultural and Educational activities) spoke about the Painting and Speech Competition and introduced the Judges to the meeting Audience. Anjan Ganguly (Joint Secretary), Ramachandra Shetty (Head of In-house activities), Parambathkandi Mohsin (Head of A.O. &Membership) and Bhumeshwar Padala (Head of Consular Services & External Events) for ICC announced the winners of Consolation prizes for Outstanding Speeches and Painting. Jaffar Khan, Head of HR, Premises & Sports for ICC Proposed the Vote of thanks.

Gandhi’s birthday is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Gandhi is considered as India’s Father of the Nation. He was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist, who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India’s independence in 1947.
