Major Kaustubh Rane laid to rest in Mumbai - over 30,000 people joined the last rites.

MUMBAI: Hundreds of people joined the last rites of martyred Indian soldier Major Kaustubh Rane who was laid to rest with full military honour at Mira Road on Thursday.
Two-year-old son Amartya carried by his mother Kanika along with grandfather Prakash lit the pyre.
The mortal remains reached the home at around 6.30 am on Thursday morning amidst chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai from the crowd.
Rane (29) who belonged to the Army’s 36 Rashtriya Rifles was among the four Indian Army soldiers who were martyred during infiltration operations on August 7 in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir in which two terrorists were eliminated.
The funeral procession began its journey at 9.30 am and reached the crematorium at around 11 am.
Massive crowd had gathered at the crematorium. Family members had to appeal to the public to maintain calm. Slogans of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai were raised by the over 30,000 crowd.
Meanwhile, a BJP Corporator Anand Manjrekar from Mira Road has come under criticism for allegedly organising a party to celebrate his birthday on Tuesday. A video of Manjrekar cutting the cake went viral on Wednesday. BJP leaders and corporators had attended the party
A pandal was set up at Jangid Estate, near the St Paul school, a stone throw away from the Major’s residence.
